U.S. - February 1st

National Freedom Day

Commemorating the signing of the 13th Amendment that abolished slavery.

Poland - February 1980

The Gdansk Agreement was signed, marking the beginning of the Solidarity movement in Poland. This movement played a crucial role in challenging the communist government and eventually let to the fall of communism in Poland.

World Cancer Day - February 4th

A global observance to raise awareness about cancer and encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment.

Poland - February 5th 1919

The Treaty of Versailles was signed, officially ending WW1. The treaty had significant implications for Poland, as it recognized the reestablishment of the country's independence after over a century of partitions.

Poland - February 6th, 1959

A plane crash near Munich, Germany, claimed the lives of several members of the Polish national football team. The tragedy is remembered as one of the darkest moments in Polish sports history.

Poland - February 12th-13th, 1940

The Katyn Massacre began, during which thousands of Polish officers, policemen, and intellectuals were executed by the Soviet NKVD. The mass graves were discovered by the Germans in 1943, and the event strained Polish-Soviet relations for decades.

World-wide - February 14th, 2024

Christians around the world will celebrate Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return".

U.S. - February 14th

Valentine's Day

A day dedicated to expressing love and affection to partners and loved ones.

U.S. - February 19th, 2024

Presidents' Day, celebrated on the third Monday of February, honors the birthdays of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

Poland - February 23rd, 1945

The Yalta Conference concluded, during which the leaders of the Allied powers (the U.S., United Kingdom, and the Soviet Union) discussed the post-WWII order. This had implications for Poland, as decisions made during the conference influenced the country's post-war fate and alignment with the Eastern Bloc.
