June 2026
Freedom & Civil Rights Day
This is one of Poland's most important modern anniversaries. On June 4, 1989, Poles voted in the first partially free parliamentary elections since World War II, breaking the monopoly of communist rule. These elections triggered a cascade of democratic revolutions across Central and Eastern Europe and paved the way for the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the communist system.
It marks the rebirth of political freedom, civil rights, and democratic governance in Poland.
National Remembrance Day for Victims of Nazi German Concentration and Death Camps
Established by the Polish parliament, this solemn day commemorates the first transport of 728 Polish prisoners to Auschwitz on June 14, 1940. It honors the approximately 1.5 million Poles who perished in Nazi concentration and extermination camps.
It is a National Day of Mourning and reflection on the atrocities committed against the Polish nation during WWII.
Father's Day
This year, Father's Day is celebrated in the U.S. on June 21st and Dzień Ojca is celebrated on June 23rd in Poland.
A Reflection:
A father's love is often quiet -
steady hands, patient guidance, a presence that anchors more than it announces.
In his strength we find safety,
In his sacrifices we find direction,
and in his faithfulness, we learn what it means to show up for others, day after day.
Today we honor the men who shape us, not only with their words, but with the lives they live.
